Nights of the East and West: Mediterranean Sound Poems
Between East and West; Jewish and Mediterranean resonances in French classical music. This musical program features works by four great French composers, all of whom lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Saint-Saëns, Hahn, Milhaud and Ravel shared an immeasurable taste for travel and had the genius to integrate elements directly drawn from exotic folklore into their compositions. Jewish and Provençal music for Milhaud, Spanish for Ravel and Hahn, Egyptian for Saint-Saëns, these are particularly Mediterranean influences, whose colors and sweetness characterize the captivating melodies.
