SHIUR has been around for over four years now, with live events, newsletters, zooms and more. This essay and virtual SHIUR is the first in a series that explores ideas, attitudes, and worldviews that motivate SHIUR’s activities, practices and output. This is an opportunity for those who have been part of the SHIUR community to further understand SHIUR, as well as newcomers to learn about who we are. We encourage you, if you are not attending the Zoom, to email any questions or comments. We will start with the role of Jewishness, Jewish Mysticism, and Kabbalah. This series will not be like our usual Virtual SHIUR, where we have a guest speaker and discuss external content, but rather will turn to SHIUR itself and the ideas that drive it.
One of the most frequent questions I receive regarding SHIUR is regarding the role of Judaism, Jewish mysticism, and Kabbalah in our activities and worldview. In this essay we will directly explore this question.
