About The Talk:
Major (res) Ben Wahlhaus will discuss his experiences as a legal advisor to the IDF and as a member of Israel’s defense team before The Hague, after being called to active reserve duty in October 2023.
About Our Speaker:
Major (res) Ben Wahlhaus served for over 12 years in the International Law Department of the Military Advocate General's Corps in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including as head of international negotiations and agreements. During his service, Ben provided advice to the IDF regarding international law, represented the State of Israel in various international fora and participated in international negotiations.
Ben was called back on active reserve duty on October 7. He was involved with providing legal counsel to the IDF’s senior commanders and delivered numerous legal briefings on various aspects surrounding the war to diplomatic, academic, and media audiences. After South Africa filed a case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Israel of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Ben was appointed to Israel’s legal defense team.
