Chanukka is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the miracle of the oil in the Temple in Jerusalem. According to tradition, when the Maccabees reclaimed the Temple from the Greeks, they found only enough pure oil to light the Menorah for one day. However, the oil burned for eight days, until new oil could be prepared. This miracle is celebrated for eight days by lighting a cand called Chanukkah.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and the start of the High Holy Days. It typically falls in September or October and is a time for introspection and repentance. Rosh Hashanah marks the start of a 10-day period of reflection and self-examination, ending with the fast day of Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is also the day on which God inscribes every person’s fate for the coming year into the Book of Life.

Purim is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire. According to the Book of Esther, the Jews were saved from extermination by Queen Esther, who revealed her Jewish identity to the king and foiled the plans of the villainous Haman. The holiday is celebrated with a festive meal, gifts of food, and the reading of the Book of Esther in synagogues.

Passover, or Pessach in Hebrew, is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. The holiday is observed for eight days, and during this time, observant Jews abstain from eating leavened bread and other foods that can ferment. Instead, they eat matzah, a type of unleavened bread. The holiday is celebrated with a special meal called the Seder, which includes the retelling of the story of the liberation from Egypt.

All these holidays, Chanukka, Rosh Hashana, Purim, and Pessach, are important events in the Jewish calendar, and each of them has its own stories, customs, and rituals. The story behind each holiday is rich in symbolism, and they provide a great opportunity to connect with family, friends, and the Jewish community, to reflect, to learn, to give thanks, and to celebrate. They also teach moral and ethical lessons that are still relevant to our daily lives today.
